The DMV Tehachapi travel run operates out of the local Veteran’s Hall, which is controlled by the Kern County Department of Parks and Recreation.
During the service renewal for the 2008 calendar year, DMV agreed to change the weekly days of service from Monday and Friday to Tuesday and Thursday due to scheduling conflicts with other organizations. However, in order to use the site on Tuesdays, DMV must move into another, smaller room and re-cable it for automation. A new twist is that the room used on Thursday has recently been double-booked by the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District. The end result is this: DMV cannot go out on Tuesdays until re-cabling is done, or every other Thursday (1st and 3rd of the month), as the room is being used by another local program.
Before arrangements are made to spend state funds and recourses on installing the necessary cabling in the smaller room, DMV is trying to work with the city, in addition to exploring alternative locations where it is feasible for DMV to provide services to the town of Tehachapi.
We are trying our best to return to a normal schedule as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to make the most of the limited schedule we have to work with.
