OPERATION AND SAFETY PROCEDURES

TAKEOFF LINE
Skylark North line personnel have the authority and responsiblity of starting or stopping all launches as safety demands.
HOOK-UP PROCEDURES
  1. Be ready when your glider is at the front of the line.

2. Line personnel will hook-up glider.

3. Glider pilot when ready will state and give the thumbs up signal to raise the wing.

4. Line personnel make the final clearing and shout "Pattern Clear".

5. Glider pilot wags rudder after receiving the pattern clear signal (NOTE: when line personnel are being used pilots are not to wag the rudder until given the signal.)

TOWING ALTITUDES:
Tow altitudes are sold in 500 foot increments only, 1000' minimum.
STEERING:
It is not a normal procedure at Skylark. Tow pilots will try to take you to lift, or where you have asked by prior arrangement. Steering can be accomplished by standard steering procedures. (NOTE: due to heavy student training-- an "in house" signal of going down thru the wake to normal low tow position is a signal to the tow pilot that instruction or practice is in progress and hence steering will not be assumed.)
BOXING THE WAKE - INSTRUCTION AND PRACTICE:
  A. The glider will go into low tow position and hold for 5 to 10 seconds to signal the tow pilot that boxing the wake maneuvers are in progress.

B. No boxing instruction or practice below 1,000' AGL.

STANDARD PATTERN AND RUNWAY PROCEDURES: (See map)
  A. Take-off is accomplished on glider runway in front of airport terminal at start line. Standard & preferred direction is heading 27 (westerly), winds permitting.

B. Standard pattern to 27 is right hand.

C. Standard pattern to 09 is left hand. (NOTE: Tow plane will land on south strip 27 using a left hand pattern).
